Available Dogs

Rocco

Rocco has been in his foster for several weeks. He is a short-haired Chihuahua about three years old and weighs nine pounds. Rocco gets along well with the other two Chihuahuas in the home. He is sweet, energetic, and likes to cuddle with you on the sofa, and he is almost house-trained. He needs to go to a loving home with older children to give him plenty of attention. Rocco enjoys his toys and likes to dig them out of the toy box. He is an excellent eater and is very inquisitive.

Dakota

Dakota’s foster mom wants everyone to know that this merle/chocolate, fluffy, and super-soft cocker spaniel mix is a bundle of joy wrapped in fur. At about 5 years old, Dakota is a neutered male who is up to date on all his vaccinations. He’s a cheerful companion that finds joy in simple pleasures like leisurely walks, car rides, cuddle sessions, and playful antics with his favorite squeaky toy affectionately referred to as his "baby." Dakota forms strong bonds and can become quite clingy, making him an ideal companion for someone who spends a lot of time at home, such as a retiree or someone who works from home. His need for a close companion stems from his insecurities, which also means he's better off as the only dog in his new home. This setting will provide him with the calm and stable environment he needs to thrive. Given his personality and needs, Dakota would fit best in a home without young children and as the only dog.

As Dakota continues to blossom under the care of his foster family, he’s showing great progress with potty training, though he’ll need a patient and understanding adopter willing to continue guiding him towards perfection. His dietary needs are specific but easy to manage, thriving on a mix of wet and dry food. Weighing in at around 30 pounds, he’s the perfect medium-sized companion with a heart as big as his smile.

Dakota has been working closely with a trainer to navigate through some attachment issues, revealing that he’s a dog with a lot of love to give, but one who also requires the comfort and security of having his people nearby. This means Dakota is looking for a home where someone is present more often than not, as he tends to get anxious when left alone. He’s not a fan of crates, but he’s shown to be well-behaved when having access to spaces like the living room and kitchen in his foster home. His early experiences, marked by extended periods in a kennel, led him to gnaw his little teeth in a bid for freedom. Since finding sanctuary with his foster family, Dakota has not seen the inside of a kennel and has shown tremendous progress, adapting well to the warmth and comfort of a loving home.

If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, and fluffy friend who will make every day brighter, Dakota could be the perfect addition to your home. His journey hasn’t been the easiest, but with the right companion, Dakota is ready to start a new chapter filled with love, walks, and plenty of squeaky toy adventures.

Adoption News!

Zero - ADOPTION PENDING!

Zero is a male Australian shepherd mix, nearly all white, with striking blue eyes and bunny-rabbit ears. He is still a puppy, but at 8 months old (as of mid-December), he's beginning to outgrow the puppy chewing phase. He weighs around 30 pounds at this point. Zero was rescued from someone who intended to have him euthanized because he is deaf. He is a happy boy and a quick learner. He gets along well with the other three dogs in his foster home, and he is picking up good behavior by following their lead. We're not sure about his opinion of cats or toddlers, but we do know that he is friendly, loves people in general, and likes to be with his people. Zero was neutered December 18 and is ready for his next adventure with a loving forever family.

Victoria - ADOPTED!

Expert belly rubber wanted! Victoria is a small black Lab/hound mix who wants nothing more than to have her belly rubbed and to be right next to someone cuddling. She is young, lovable, outgoing, and active. She is about a year old. Victoria really enjoys her daily zoomie sessions around the yard and needs a secure fence. She is incredibly fast and agile and would probably do very well in agility training. Her foster family has been working on sit and stay during feeding time and when at the door before going outside. She is also doing very well with her crate training and can do about 4-6 hours. When she hears the treat bag open, she's in her crate patiently waiting for it. Squeaky toys are her favorite; she gets very excited. Her current favorite is an orange caterpillar that she wants to take everywhere with her. She would be perfect for someone who is home a good portion of the day and who wants a constant companion and best friend. Victoria shares a foster home with a mama cat and her kittens, and she is doing GREAT with all of them! Mama cat Molly is now her best friend.  She loves getting to play with the kittens; she still has to be supervised because she doesn’t realize she’s much larger and stronger than they are. She is now 46 pounds (yeah she likes her treats and needs a little diet). The kittens have even tried to nurse on her a couple of times and she just lies there, even though she has nothing to give.

Noodle - ADOPTED!

Noodle is a male toy poodle who grew "too big." Even so, he weighs 11 pounds now, when he should weigh 14-15. He is a young boy at 1.5 years. Noodle has lived in a crate most of his life and therefore is not trained. He seems to feel a little bit insecure right now, with his sudden change in circumstances, and he likes to be held. He is super sweet and snuggly and totally adorable, and he is going to reward the time, patience and training that he will need from his new family with so much love, cuddles, and fun! He's made friends with another dog at the vet's office, and they've had a blast playing together.

Maggie Mae - ADOPTED!

Maggie Mae came to SARG in August, 2023. Because she had some health issues, she was not added to the SARG website, but she was adopted by a previous SARG adopter and is doing well in her new home.

Precious - ADOPTED!

Precious is another of those little ones whose elderly owner passed away and left her homeless. She is a senior girl herself, we think about 11-12 years old. Her weight is an estimate, probably around 20 pounds. She is housetrained. She doesn’t like bigger dogs, but gets along with dogs her size or smaller. She had to do some work on her kitty socialization skills, but she has made a significant improvement.

She has a lot of energy for a dog her age. She loves to go for walks and she loves being outside when the weather is nice. She would be happiest in a home with a fenced in yard, so that she could lie out in the grass and soak up the sun. She would do well as an only dog or in a home with younger small dogs. Her energy might overwhelm some older dogs.

Little Bit - ADOPTED!

In the words of Little Bit's foster Mom:

Little Bit is a 5-pound, 7-month-old Chihuahua. She is full of life and energy. She is affectionate, smart, fast, athletic and agile.

Best of all, she is so very loving and cuddly.

She is bright and easily learns commands.

She is almost housetrained. She loves playing chase with our other foster and gets along well with our more mature dogs.

As her foster parents, we have loved our special time with her. Whoever gets this little girl is getting a real gem and treasure for many years to come.

Emma - ADOPTED!

Emma is a 9-pound, 2-year-old Chihuahua mix. She is laid-back and a cuddly lap dog.

She loves to play chase with the other young puppy in her foster home. She has also found her place with the rest of the elderly pack and blends in nicely.

She is almost housetrained and is very well mannered. She loves the outdoors and chooses to stay out on her own. She is a wonderful and loyal guard dog, but not a yapper.

Whoever gets this precious little girl is very, very lucky. She is a true treasure.

Gracie - ADOPTED!

Gracie (aka "Little itty bitty tiny dog") is a 9-years-young Yorkie/Yorkie mix. She is a delightful little 6-pound dog, who's looking for a home through no fault of her own. Her previous owners became unable to care for her. She packs a lot of personality in that little body! She's definitely not a couch potato and LOVES to go for walks. She wants to greet everyone when out and about, people and dogs alike. Gracie has done exceptionally well adjusting to her foster home: becoming acquainted with 4 new dogs, a doggie door, two new people, and a new routine. She really likes her foster dad! While she does not yet play with her foster siblings, she does seem to like having four-legged company, and we think she would do well with another little dog. We would love to find her a home where she can get daily walks, go out and about with her people, and get the love and affection she deserves. She rides great in the car, does wonderfully on the leash, and is a fun little dog. She can occasionally bark at loud noises, so her foster home has been working with her on that. She is easily trainable where that is concerned and, with treats, quickly get over that. She does bark at storms so her foster home puts a Thundershirt on and wraps her up in a blanket and that helps ease the concern over the storm. Gracie will make someone a delightful little companion and she deserves to be an integral part of her family. Please put in an application if you are interested in Gracie.

Pecas - ADOPTED!

Pecas is sweet and kind. He loves meeting new people and going out to sit in the sun. He spends most of his time sleeping but when he wants to play, he'll use up all his energy chasing that ball. He loves tug of war but he isn't the biggest fan of losing. He's not aware he isn't a lap dog, so if you sit on the floor, he'll try to sit on you. If all else fails, he'll sit leaning on you. Pecas is roughly 4 years old and weighs 63 pounds. He is great with kids, but he does tend to jump up and could knock a small child down unintentionally. He has not been introduced to cats at all, and has limited experience with other dogs, except for his pal, Ruby. We would like to find Pecas and Ruby a forever home together, as they are close buddies. Pecas is housetrained but needs to go out at least three times a day to avoid any accidents. He needs to be STRICTLY an indoor dog. Pecas is an English bulldog, a breed that can overheat quickly, so outside time should be monitored on hot days. He'll bark when he's ready to come in.

Ruby - ADOPTED!

Ruby is the friendliest dog ever. She is happy to meet just about anyone. But don’t show her anything suspicious, or she’ll try and hide. She fears pumpkins and balloons because to her they are just plain weird looking. She loves running and jumping for short moments but prefers short walks. She loves to sunbathe but equally loves lying on cool tiles after some time outside. She is 6 years old and weighs 40 pounds. Ruby has not been introduced to cats at all. She's been friendly with other dogs she has met, but she hasn't spent much time with dogs other than Pecas. We would like to find Ruby and Pecas a home together, as they are close pals. Ruby is gentle and great with kids. She is housetrained but needs to go outside at least 3 times per day to avoid any accidents. She needs to be STRICTLY an indoor dog. Ruby is an English bulldog, a breed that can overheat quickly, so outside time should be monitored on hot days. She'll bark when she's ready to come in.
