Cotton

Cotton is a very special and loving boy, who was born deaf. According to a DNA test, he is a double merle, most likely responsible for his deafness and unique blue eyes. He and his foster mom have been working with a professional trainer to learn alternative means of communication, such as the use of hand signals. Cotton is a quick learner and wants to please his human(s). He is about 2 ½ years old and weighs about 25 pounds. He is housetrained but might have an occasional accident. He gets along well with a cat and other small animals in his foster home. Cotton is a cute and playful boy. While he loves playing with his human(s), he also entertains himself playing independently with a variety of toys. He has a soft, somewhat fluffy coat and loves to be snuggled and petted. While Cotton would make a wonderful addition to any home, he needs a family committed to learning how he communicates with humans, providing him with consistency. The professional trainer working with Cotton and his foster mom offers transitional services to assist with acclimation to new homes for a minimal cost.

Barney

Barney is a 14-years-young shih tzu mix. We don’t really know much about his background, other than that, when he was brought into the shelter, he had to be shaved and had a raging ear infection so bad that his foster family thought he was deaf. Barney has had a dental, cleared up the ear infection and adjusted to life in his foster home. He has learned lots of new things, proving that you absolutely can teach an old dog new tricks, and that he is not deaf. He uses the doggie door like a champ and is currently living with 5 other dogs. He is a very pleasant fellow who likes to be in the same room with his people. He would make a great companion for someone older who is home most of the time. He walks great on a leash but really doesn’t need to go too far. He is housetrained, but he isn’t a huge fan of the rain, and he needs to be in a home without stairs. His foster family can’t say enough good things about him and says he is a very easy keeper who deserves a second ‘leash’ at a great life. If you are interested in Barney, please put in an application!

Adoption News!

Darcy Rose - ADOPTION PENDING!

Darcy Rose is about 1½ years old. She was rescued from a backyard puppy mill along with eighteen other small dogs. When she came to her foster home, she was terrified of everybody and everything. She had no social skills and trusted no one to touch her or get close. Over the past several weeks she has learned to trust and accept love in her dog-friendly foster home. With the help of three small dogs, she has learned how to be a dog and belong to a pack. She has learned how to eat her meals from her bowl without encroaching on the others' meals. Darcy is now beginning to learn basic commands and will sit with her foster family while they watch a movie. She has gone from not knowing how to be touched, to wanting to be cuddled. Darcy is beginning to blossom like a rose! She is smart, loving, and so sweet. All she wants is to be loved and accepted. This little girl will be a dream come true for a family or single person.

Bentley - ADOPTED!

Bentley's foster mom gave him that name because he has the elegant bearing of a dog who would look perfectly at home driving in a Bentley belonging to the lord of an English manor home. But actually, Bentley, a 7-year-old, 45-pound English setter, would fit into any household. He does beautifully with children, other dogs, and cats, walks easily on a leash, and is housetrained. He loves to go on walks, but he is also an easy-going couch potato at home. He has perfect house manners and does not chew or bark. He is a little afraid of thunderstorms, but a loving hug will calm him right down. He knows the commands "sit" and "stay" and is very quick to learn new routines. Whoever gives Bentley a forever home will be getting a truly wonderful furry family member.

Rocco - ADOPTED!

Rocco has been in his foster for several weeks. He is a short-haired Chihuahua about three years old and weighs nine pounds. Rocco gets along well with the other two Chihuahuas in the home. He is sweet, energetic, and likes to cuddle with you on the sofa, and he is almost house-trained. He needs to go to a loving home with older children to give him plenty of attention. Rocco enjoys his toys and likes to dig them out of the toy box. He is an excellent eater and is very inquisitive.
