Animals in Permanent Foster Care
These animals are mostly seniors who have been unable to find forever homes because of age and/or health conditions. Since SARG is a no-kill organization, and these animals have been with us for a long time, we would appreciate contributions for their continuing care to cover medications and special foods. It's easy to make a donation to sponsor one of them using PayPal.
Just type “Sponsor” and the animal’s name you would like to sponsor in the special instructions box!
Bentley
Bentley's foster mom gave him that name because he has the elegant bearing of a dog who would look perfectly at home driving in a Bentley belonging to the lord of an English manor home. But actually, Bentley, a 7-year-old, 45-pound English setter, would fit into any household. He does beautifully with children, other dogs, and cats, walks easily on a leash, and is housetrained. He loves to go on walks, but he is also an easy-going couch potato at home. He has perfect house manners and does not chew or bark. He is a little afraid of thunderstorms, but a loving hug will calm him right down. He knows the commands "sit" and "stay" and is very quick to learn new routines. Whoever gives Bentley a forever home will be getting a truly wonderful furry family member.
Asia
Asia is a gorgeous Himalayan mix of indeterminate age -- probably about 8-10, rescued from Anderson County Animal Shelter. We were told she was surrendered when her owner died and no one in the family wanted her. Asia is beautiful and shy. She pretty much lives in a closet or sequestered space. We don't know her story, but she's obviously frightened of the world around her. She uses her litter box and comes out to eat. And at those times, she'll let people pet her and love on her. But then she returns to her safe place. She'd do best in a home that can provide a closet or small room where she can feel safe. Asia may become more adapted to life in the real world over time with love and care.
Belle
She was originally a SARG kitty, adopted by an older lady who now can no longer care for Belle. So Belle came back to us, as do all SARG kitties that can no longer be cared for by their adopters. Belle loves to be around people. For a short time, she was in a Humane Society in Jefferson County where she had the run of the place -- other cats were in cages. Belle was a greeter, sitting on the couch. Belle has hyperthyroidism and needs daily medication, but the vets tell us she's good about taking it. Belle is now in a permanent foster home where she is receiving the loving care she needs.
Little Bean
Little Bean is about 6 years old. He returned to SARG after being in a one-kitty home for most of his life. Little Bean needs an adult home where he's the "one and only." He's not a fan of other cats or of dogs. He loves to cuddle and be a kitty friend, but he also likes his alone time. Little Bean has arthritis in both hips and takes a supplement for that condition, but it's easy to administer -- just put it on his food and he eats it right up. Little Bean would do well in a home where people are gone a lot of the day, so he has private time. And he loves to play!
George Bailey
George Bailey is a gorgeous Maine coon mix boy born around 2015 or 2016.
Jasper
Jasper is absolutely a lap dog! He is a little hard of hearing, and his vision isn’t what it used to be. He is a 14-year-old Shih Tzu who has dry eye and requires drops in his eyes daily. He is in the perfect foster home with veterinary technicians who can get those drops in, and whom he clearly loves. Because of his resistance to having the drops in his eyes, and other little curmudgeonly quirks, he needs special care and is very fortunate to be receiving it in his loving foster home.
Godiva
Godiva is a very loving cat who loves to come and see what you are doing. She is 6½ years old as of January, 2020. She enjoys being petted and playing with anything that has a bell or a feather. She is active and is naturally curious. Godiva lives in Louisville, KY, with her foster mom.
Hobbes
My name is Hobbes. I am a year old as of December 1st, 2019. The vet thinks I am going to be a big boy when I grow up. I’m an orange-and-white tabby kitty. My foster mom calls me a Creamsicle cat. I’m not exactly sure what that means, but she smiles when she says it, so I think it must be good. I have a foster home where I am very much wanted and loved, and I think I'll just stay here indefinitely!
Katie
Katie is a 9-year-old calico kitty who is declawed on her front paws. Unlike some calicos, who can have a bit of an attitude, Katie is very sweet and affectionate and loves to be petted and held. She weighs a bit over 9 pounds and has a very soft, strikingly colorful coat. She probably would be most happy as an only kitty. She is now in a long-term foster home where she is very much loved.
Rainbow Bridge
Chloe
Even with all her health issues, sweet little Chloe lived to be 13 or 14 years old, thanks to the excellent loving care she received from her devoted foster family. They had to say goodbye on January 13, 2024. All of us at SARG are grateful beyond words for the life that was made possible for her by this loving family.
Chloe is a little Shih-tzu who came to us with multiple health problems, including cataracts on both eyes and diabetes. Her elderly owner had brought her to a local vet to be euthanized because of the health issues. She has had surgery for the cataracts and is on a schedule of regular vet visits to control her diabetes and other health issues. She is 9 - 10 years old as of 2019, and she will remain in the care of SARG as a permanent foster.
Lucky Lucy
Lucy surprised everyone by surviving and enjoying life well beyond the time that anyone thought she could. This was because of the exceptional care and love she enjoyed in her foster home. Caring for senior pets with difficult health issues requires a very special kind of person, and Lucy was indeed Lucky to have found a foster home with two of them, who loved her very much. She went to the Rainbow Bridge in January, 2024.
Lucky Lucy is a sweet little Chihuahua who has multiple health issues and has been badly mistreated. But she is now living her best life in a caring long-term foster home.
Sweet Pea
Sweet Pea went to the Rainbow Bridge on May 2, 2023, leaving a huge empty space in the home and hearts of her foster family. She was such a loving girl and very aptly named. She was almost 16 years old.
Sweet Pea is a senior bichon mix female. She turned 13 years old in August, 2020. She was turned over to us by the executor of her deceased owner's estate. Several people offered her what would have been great homes, but we decided she should remain as a permanent foster because of some health issues, and because she suffers from separation anxiety and does not adjust well to change. She cried for the first two weeks in her foster home and has now bonded with her foster dad and follows him everywhere ... she whines when he goes to the mailbox without her and is very upset if she is left alone for any time at all.
